A striking tribute to the late Major Miles was paid last Saturday by Mr. C. Hotson, president of the King Country High School Sports Association, as he presented the Major Miles Cup to R. Findlay, the outstanding athlete at the sports held last Saturday. This Cup, competed for the first time at Saturday’s sports, had been presented by an anonymous donor, and Mr. Hotson said he could think of no better manner in which to honour the memory of a youth who was outstanding in both his athletic and scholastic accomplishments, and carried his success with a modesty that was an object lesson to all. It was particularly appropriate that the Cup should be won by a boy who had known Major Miles personally, and had met him on the sporting field on many occasions. The Cup was presented to Findlay by Mrs. Miles.
