VALEDICTORY

MRS. H. C. EVANS. On Saturday last the members of St. Luke's Guild and Croquet Club met at the clubroom for the purpose of farewelling Mrs. H. C. Evans, who is shortly leaving Te Kuiti to reside at Tauranga. The president, Mrs. A. Blackman, made a very appropriate speech in which she referred to the guest's long association with the activities of St. Luke's Church, and the fact that in all her efforts she had never spared herself. A presentation was then made to her by the president of a beautiful handbag, on behalf of both the Guild and Croquet Club members. Mrs. T. Snowdon, as president of the Croquet Club, also spoke and wished Mrs. Evans every happiness and good health in her new home at Tauranga. Mrs. Evans on rising to reply was greeted with the singing of "For She's a Jolly Good Fellow." She said that she would feel very much the severance from so many friends, after a residence of about twenty-five years, but would leave with happy recollections of her connection with St. Luke's. A very dainty afternoon tea was served and brought to a close a happy afternoon. Many friends of Mrs. Evans met at her home on Monday afternoon. A very enjoyable time was spent, and after having been accorded musical honours, Mrs. Evans was presented with a beautiful crystal bowl. Mrs. Evans feelingly replied, expressing her regret at leaving so many good friends she had made during her long stay in Te Kuiti. A very pleasant afternoon was held in the Parish Hall yesterday, when the ladies of the Plunket Committee met to farewell Mrs. Evans.

The President, Mrs. Isaac, in presenting Mrs. Evans with a crystal jewel case, expressed the appreciation of the Committee for Mrs. Evans' valuable services over a period of many years, and wished her health and happiness in her new sphere. During the afternoon interesting reminiscences of their tour to the Coronation were given by Mrs. Broadfoot and Miss Mona Evans. Delicious afternoon tea was dispensed by the ladies of the Committee.
