GUIDE AND SCOUT NOTES

At a recent court of honour of the Scouts, Patrol Leader B. Shakes was elected troop leader in succession to F. Miller, who was promoted to assistant scoutmaster.

Scout B. Harkness passed the first aid test and is now well on the way for his second class badge. It is noted that some members of the troop are reluctant to attend because they do not possess uniforms, and in one or two instances have no hope of securing one. This is a problem that confronts all officers at one time or another, and we wish to take this opportunity to point out that uniforms are not compulsory. The major consideration is to give each boy a helping hand to become decent and self-reliant citizens with sufficient civic pride to counteract any inferiority complex. We therefore appeal to all Scouts to attend regularly. We record with regret the loss of a bright and loyal member of the Te Kuiti Cubs, who leaves for fresh hunting grounds in the near future. Cub Arthur O'Loughlen will be farewelled in the Cub fashion Saturday afternoon, and the whole organisation join in wishing him health and happiness at Temuka. "Good hunting," Arthur. Girl Guides. The Guides who recently passed their Tenderfoot badge are now busy working for their second class badge. Last Monday .evening was spent in studying trekking and morse code. Hilda Elliott and Nancy Howell have passed their athletic badge. Great interest is being shown by the Guides in attaining the proficiency badge.
