FEILDING EWE FAIR.

Messrs. Dalgety and Co., Ltd , report on the Feilding Ewe Fair, when practically record numbers were penned at the Annual Fair held on Friday, 19th inst., the numbers approaching 50,000 head. The sale was conducted in two sections, 2-tooths and full mouth ewes, both sales synchonising. There was a large attendance of the buying power, many being present from the Main Trunk districts. As usual at this fixture, some very attractive lines of 2tooths were submitted on behalf of local breeders, choice lines selling under splendid competition John Callesen's entry of 40 2-tooth ewes passed for transfer topped the market at 3| guineas in this section. Other sales of note in our catalogue were: Account M. A. Conway, 111 at 535, 118 at 525; ac. N. J. Short, 100 at 465, 130 at 445; ac. R. D. Younger, 60 at 40s Id; ac. Sandland Estate (in conjunction with the Dist. Coy), 36 at 41s, 30 at 48s; ac. S. Williamson, 78 at 40s. Other lines of 2tooths brought from 33s to 38s 6d. Practically all lines were sold in this section.

Full mouth ewes eased in price at the opening and several of the early pens were passed in, the market showing quite a drop on recent sales. One third of this entry comprised low mouthed inferior ewes, and for this class competition was noticeably slack. Reliable lines of hill breeding ewes were competed for quite well, and although prices were hardly up to expectations, vendors met the market. About half way through the sale there was a decided firming in prices, in some cases the market was up Is 6d to 2s before the close. Generally speaking, very few lines were turned out unsold at the conclusion of the sale. Mrs. Dath's entry from Pohangine for the third year in succesion topped the market for 4-year-olds, this line of 223 selling at 34s 7d. The following are some of our principal sales:—Account R. D. Younger, 265 5-year ewes 27s lOd; ac. J. Montgomerie, 156 5-year ewes, 27s 6d; ac. Manson Estate, 361 5 and 6-year-old, 23s 6d; ac. Short and Son, 220 do, 245; ac. C. Eglinton, 57 do, 23s 6d; ac.
