HAMILL SHIELD CRICKET

THREE-POINTER FOR COLTS.

Quick hitting in the second innings gained Colts a three-point win over Pio Pio in the Hamill Shield cricket competition on Saturday. Pio Pio went in first to make 66 runs. No less than 30 of these were extras, composed of 26 byes, 3 leg byes and a single no ball. Though Colts opened disastrously, the HutchinsSeccombe partnership and then Barlow raised the total quickly, and the tenth wicket fell with 103 runs scored. Box and Ronaldson provided a bright partnership -in Pio Pio's second innings, and then Smith followed up with a useful 12. The innings' total of 107, leaving Colts with the task of raising within about 30 minutes a total of 71 for a three-pointer, made Colts' chances of adding further to their advantage seem remote. However, it was done for the loss of a single wicket. Barlow was caught fairly early but McLeod was joined by the hard-hitting Brainsby, and between them they rattled on the score, McLeod not being caught until after the winning mark was passed.
