N.Z. BUTTER
DECLINING PRICE. INVESTIGATION URGED. An independent investigation of the butter market was urged by Mr. G. L. Marshall (Marton) at a meeting of the Wellington Central provincial executive of the Farmers' Union at Feilding. He drew attention to the fact that the price for New Zealand butter on the London market was receding, while the produce of other countries was claiming an increasingly high premium. He had been told that the elimination of small traders had killed healthy competition and the position was too serious to be allowed to go on without question. He moved that the Dominion executive be asked to consider a proposal for the appointment of a competent business man in London to investigate and report, with particular reference to the question of how far the elimination of competition was influencing • the present position. Other members of the executive were in agreement with Mr. Marshall, and the motion was carried.
