DEHORNING BEEF CATTLE.
The value of dehorning has been given wide publicity. It is interesting to see, says an English paper, what countries engaged in the chilled beef trade are doing in this connection : New Zealand: Breeding of polled stock and dehorning all others is urged, and a proposal to make dehorning among cattle for export obligatory has been advanced. South Africa and Rhodesia: Dehorning of herds is a gradually extending practice. Canada: Early next year a bounty of one dollar a head is to be applied to hornless cattle of over 4001 b weight for export trade. United States of America: Dehorning has long been standard practice among high-grade herds. South American countries: The export beef trade of Argentina (90 per cent, of which is chilled) insists on 100 per cent, dehorning. Horned animals are not accepted.
