The latest commodity to share a rise in price with other imported articles of manufacture is gloves. A member of a well known New Plymouth drapery firm said the reason for the rise in price was given more explicitly than usual in a covering letter from the manufacturers. It was said that glove makers were finding it difficult to obtain sufficient good quality skins to fulfil orders because of the exceptional demands made by the British Government for the manufacture of gas masks.
