N.Z. MEAT IN LONDON. RETAIL PRICES. The New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board has been advised by its London manager that the following retail prices were being quoted for New Zealand lamb and mutton retailed in London during January, 1937. These prices represent a fair average of the prices quoted by the better class shops in London for the best quality of New Zealand lamb and mutton. Ne,w Zealand Lamb. Per lb. Legs 12d. Shoulders lid. Loins lid. Necks 6d. Breasts 3d. Forequarters 8 id. Hindquarters llid. New Zealand Mutton (Wether*). Legs 9d. Shoulders Bd. Loins .. . * Bd. Necks 4d. Breasts 2d. FEILDING SALE. Messrs. Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report extra large yardings of sheep of all classes, the total entry being estimated at over 30,000. A large percentage of the entry was comprised of hold-over quality lambs with a fair offering of lambs fit to fatten, the latter selling freely at up to late rates, hold-over sorts hardly maintaining values ruling over the past two weeks. Also included in the sheep entry was a fair entry of breeding ewes. In the main the quality and age were of a doubtful nature, a large proportion in this section being ewes that should have been fattened and frozen last season, this factor having a bad effect on genei*al values received; nevertheless a few outstanding pens of breeders sold at almost up to late rates. Average pennings came to hand in the fat sheep section and we report a general firming in this department. Cattle.—Practically no run bred cattle came to hand. A large yarding of Jersey cows fit for potting and paddock purposes came forward and we report a good cleaarnce in this section at full late rates. In the fat cattle section we yarded practically all cow beef ex the dairy, and here we report a sound sale throughout when taking into consideration the extent of the penning. A fair entry of potter bulls sold freely at schedule rates. Quotations : Fat Sheep.—Wethers 19s 3d to 27s 9d; fat shorn wethers 29s to 325; fat cows 17s 9d to 20s; lambs 23s lOd to 26s 9d.
