Miss M. Wright, who is nursing at the New Plymouth Hospital, is at present visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Wright, on her annual leave.

The death has occured at Taihape of Mr. Frank Hamill, who for the last 20 years was a resident of that town. He is survived by. his wife and son, Mr. Sidney Hamill, of Wellington.

The engagement is announced of Veda Merle, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. Valois, of Otorohanga, to James William, elder son of Mr. and Mrs. H. Morris, Otorohanga.

The engagement is announced between John Jordan, second son of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Jordan, Wellington Street, Hamilton, to Florence, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Peterson, Te Kuiti.

A striking tribute to the late Mr. R. W. Neal was paid by the chairman of the Wairere Power Board yesterday. “There was not, the slightest doubt that Mr Neal put his whole heart and soul into the business not only of the Power Board, but in any of the local affairs in which he took , a part,” said Mr. Boddy.‘ “To those who had the privilege of seeing Mr. Neal in his last illness, his courage was an object lesson. He had no fear of t,he hereafter; having lived his life as it should be lived, in giving service to his fellowmen, he faced death as he had faced the troubles of pioneering—in a manner which was an object lesson to all.” He could only hope that to those Mr. Neal had left behind, the fact that he had lived a life of selflessness, and had died as he had lived, would be a source of help and . strength.
