HASTE COSTS A LIFE
An attempt to save a few seconds in a factory cost the life of a 14-year-old boy. At Wimbledon Police Court a fine of £ls was imposed on Corfield and Butlei*, Ltd., of Trafalgar Works, Merton, for using dangerous machinery not securely fenced. Edward Levoy, of Norbury Avenue, Thornton Heath, said that he and Aubrey Holmes, aged 14, Were trying to fit a driving belt on an over head shaft. To save time they had not stopped the shaft, though their instructions were to stop it. Holmes wqs caught by the belt, hurled over the top of the shaft, and killed.
