Mossakowski, a popular basso at «■> the Warsaw Opera House, was charged lljd for a glass of beer, and, considering that the charge was excessive, demanded his money back. The barkeeper refused, whereupon Mossakowski picked up d menu and sang through the entire contents to the tunes of well-known operatic arias. When he came to the beers, he sang the names and prices to :a tragic air entitled, “Tell me whether I am guilty.” Amid cheers from a fashionable crowd, the barkeeper admitted the overcharge and Mossakowski left triumphant.
