SUCCESSFUL BALL. (Own Correspondent.) Despite the inclement weather there was a good attendance at the ball held last Tuesday night in the local hall which was transformed into a fern grove for the occasion. Visitors were present from Awakino, Mokau and Pio Pio. Snappy music was supplied by Mr. Pat O'Rourke's orchestra. Mr. W. Rattenbury and Mr. B. Nolan ably carried out the duties of M.C.'s. Mrs. J. Averv was chosen as the "Belle of the Ball," with Mr. W. Rattenbury as the most popular gentleman. Winners of the novelty dances were as follows: —Bob Waltz, Miss B. Moir and Mr. J. Tubman; Monte
Carlo, Miss M. Roberts and Mr. B. Rattenbury; balloon waltz, Miss J. Ridling and Mr. 11. Freeman; spot waltz, Miss N. Bryant and Mr. K. Bryant. A savoury hamper donated by' Mrs. L. An unfortunate accident befell Mrs. T. A. Summers while attending the , pictures last Thursday night. At the I conclusion of the programme, on get- j ting up, she slipped and fell, receiving internal injuries which necessitated her immediate removal to the , Te Kuiti hospital, where she is progressing favourably.
