WAITANGURU
BASKETBALL. (Own Correspondent.) Last Saturday a basketball match was played between the Mangaotaki team and Aria on the Pio Pio school court. The weather was cold and windy, but an interesting game soon warmed up the players. Miss Buckley refereed the match. If a little more coaching was enforced it would be less work and loss of time for the referee. However, the match was a good one, and some of the passing of both teams of the finest. Goal throwers were: —Aria: Misses Heglin, Tarrant and Taupahaere, and for the Mangaotaki team Misses Buckley, Lowrie and Murray. The scores were B—6 in favour of Mangaotaki. The teams then adjourned to the W.D. Rest Room where afternoon tea was served, and at the conclusion Miss Telfer, on behalf of Aria, thanked their opponents for their interesting 'game and for the dainty afternoon tea. Miss Mary Buckley, on behalf of the Mangaotaki team, thanked the visiing team for coming along, and hoped for another match in the near future. The teams boarded their lorries for home amidst cheery barracking from each,v±eam. The residence of Mr. Mather, which was unroofed by the recent gale, is about ready for habitation. The house was badly damaged, the verandah and roof landing down in the next farm, and the family was drenched, household effects and all.
