SOCIAL CREDIT IN ALBERTA.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —From time to time we receive news in our papers purporting to give us a true picture of conditions under Social Credit in Alberta. Now, sir, the accuracy of these pictures can be tested in the light of the following facts:—No Social Credit legislation has yet been put into force in Alberta or enacted. Why? Because Alberta under the late Government working on the lines of "sound finance" was bankrupted. When the Social Credit Government took over they found the Treasury empty and a heavy external debt. You can only meet external debt with gold or exports and that takes time. Were they given time? Legislation was rushed through the Canadian House of Commons that the Financial Times said "would stop any State from using unorthodox methods in money." Aberhart was refused an extension for Alberta's debt except under terms that would prevent Social Credit legislation from being effective. Magor, the man who was put in charge~~of the financial side of reducing Newfoundland from a self governing Dominion to a Crown colony, has been sent as financial adviser to Alberta. Remember that Britain has not met her external debt or as far as that goes any other country. So the will of the people of Alberta has been set aside.—l am, etc., HEATH MASON.
