GUARANTEED PRICES

EARLY ANNOUNCEMENT. A CONFIDENT MINISTER. Speaking at the Masterton Show yesterday the Minister of Agriculture, Hon. W. Lee Martin, said the Government hoped to be able to assist this and other farming districts, particularly in regard to prices the producers were receiving. An early announcement would be made about guaranteed prices,, and he was confident it would be felt the Government had met the position in a very handsome way. Addressing members of calf clubs, the Minister said he hoped the drift to the cities would be arrested and reversed without asking people to undergo such hardships as settlers had endured in the past. The Minister said that for six months to the end of January dairy grading in Wairarapa had increased, though gradings for the whole Dominion had fallen slightly.
