REVENUE FIGURES

OF WAITOMO POWER BOARD. INCREASED CONSUMPTION. Despite substantial decreases made in the tariff for the nine months since the beginning of the financial year the revenue of the Waitomo Power Board has increased by £6l, as compared with the corresponding period last year—£l3,3os, as against £13,244. This result has been achieved as a result of increased sales of electricity, for the units sold for the nine months ending December, 1935, amounted to 2,278,892, as a'gainst 1,953,827 for the same period in 1934. The payment to the Public Wor.ks Department concurrently increased by £SOB. The following table compares the revenues under the.various tariffs for the nine months period ending December 31, 1935, and 1934, respec-

Mr. Cato. expressed his satisfaction with the disclosed position, especially in view of the fact that the Board had made concessions amounting to £650 last year. Ranges were.still being connected up, and it was too early yet to feel the full effects of the range load building—though he had no doubt it would turn out satisfactorily for the Board. The concessions last year concerned lighting to the extent of £SOO, and when this was considered the lighting revenue was most satisfactory. A general discussion followed, Mr. Lee pointed out that the Board had lost two large consumers —the Otorohanga Dairy Factory and the Shingle Company. The indications were that in considering reductions for the coming year there would not be much margin to work on. The secretary suggested that commercial lighting was the type of load most worthy of consideration, while Mr. Simms held that a concession should be made for pumping;motors in the paddock.
