GOLF NOTES

During last week-end further progress was made in the championship matches, Steedmah-Herbert Cup games and the final round for the Captain's trophy. In the senior championships Hine defeated Ward 2 up, Wilson beat Saunders 4—2, and Irving beat Hotu 1 up. In the Steedman-Herbert Cup games Brainsby beat Hetet 2—l, and Irving beat P. H. Jones 1 up. As a result of a fine round by Frerichs in the final -round for the Captain's trophy, 98—28, nett 70, making his best two rounds 140, this gave him a comfortable win in this competition. Other good scores were by Harkness, them runners-up with totals of 143 in the aggregate. < In the inter-club game played at Ohaupo, Te Kuiti ran out comfortable winners by 10 matches to 5 with -3 all square. In the singles J. Dinsdale beat Lovell 4—3, Brainsby lost, to Ford 5 down and 4, Irving beat Gladding 4 —3, Powdrill lost to Boswell 2 down and 1, Harkness beat Tuck 4—3, Hetet beat Broad 2—l, McColl beat Franks 4—3, Lambie beat Bainbridge 4—2, Frerichs and Nicholson all square, H. Dinsdale lost to Taylor 6 down and 5, Krough lost to Tombs 1 down, Jackson and Peterson all square. In the foursomes J. Dinsdale and Hetet beat Lovell and Tuck 4—3, Brainsby and McColl lost to Franks and Ford 1 down, Powdrill and Jackson lost to Boswell and Peterson 2 down, Harkness and Krough beat Broad and Tombs 3—2, Frerichs and Dinsdale all; square with *Nicholson and Taylor, Irving and Lambie beat Gladding and Bainbridge 2—l. In the championships the following matches must be played before the 20th instant: Hine v. Wilson, Irving v. Brainsby; also . the semi-finals in the junior championship. SteedmanHerbert Cup matches must. also be completed as follows: J. Dinsdale v. O'Brien, and Irving to play off with the winner in the semi-finals.
