ARAPAE

FIRST ANNIVERSARY DANCE. (Own Correspondent.) The Arapae Hall Society held its first anniversary dance on Saturday evening last, and a most enjoyable time was spent by all present. There was a record attendance, close on 100 couples, and the floor was taxed to its full capacity. Visitors were present from all surrounding districts. The winners of the Monte Carlo waltz were Miss E. Riddle and Mr. Rooney, and the "lucky foxtrot" was won by Miss A. Trust and Mr. Stan. Remnant. The music was supplied by Phil Swift's orchestra, and extras were played by Miss M. Trembath, Miss W. Jones, and Mr. G. Remnant. Mr. J. McDonald was M.C.

A feature of the evening was the birthday cake, tastefully decorated, made and given by Mrs. W. G. Crocombe, which was cut by Mrs. N. Early, amid applause. The supper was in the capable hands of aMadies' committee. A cake donated by Mrs. Early and made by Mrs. H. Weir, which contained a little "silver mine" donated by the committee, was won by Mr. J. Kearns. The hall funds will benefit, considerably by the proceeds. Mr. and Mrs. Clarke N and family, of Auckland, have been the guests of Mrs. E. V. K. Allison for a few days. Mr. and Mrs. C. Fox and family were the guests of Mrs. W. J. Trembath for the anniversary dance weekend.
