GAME WITH BAY OF PLENTY. SPECTACULAR FOOTBALL The King Country Rugby representatives gained a last-minute victory against the Bay of Plenty team today in the most spectacular football match seen at Tauranga this season, says the New Zealand Herald. A strong westerly wind, reaching gale force at times, hampered the backs to some extent. The first try came 18 minutes after the start from a passing run by the King Country backs, Durbridge scoring. Twelve minutes later Bathgate made a fine opening and sent Howie across, making King Country six points. A little later Brodrick, who recently returned from Australia, crossed from a scramble, and shortly after Lees finished off an effective handling bout by the Bay backs to score. At half-time the scores were 6-all.

Early in the second half Morgan landed a penalty goal for Bay of Plenty, and five minutes later the same player scored from a passing movement. Shortly afterward Simpson gained a try from a loose rush, and R. Barlow converted. Bay 12, King Country 11. Then Brodrick made the finest solo run of the match and touched down between the posts, Morgan converting. Bay, 17, King Country 11. An excellent opening by Howie was capitalised by Wheeler, scoring, and a few minutes later Nelson touched down, making the scores equal, 17-all. Keen, exciting play marked the concluding stages, and just on the call of time Crossman scored and R. Barlow converted, the game ending:—King Country 22, Bay of Plenty 17. For the winners J. Barlow, Crossman, Howie and Bathgate were prominent in the back division, while Kemp, Pickrang and Bradshaw were the pick of the forwards. For Bay pi Plenty E. Howell, Williams and Pile were the best backs and Jones, Brown and Brodrick were the leading forwards, Brodrick being the best forward on the ground. N. Bathgate, the King Country captain, of Taumaru'nui, suffered concussion, while P. Ririnui, a Bay of Plenty forward, of Tauranga, received an injury to his left shoulder, both players being removed by an ambulance to the hospital.
