REHABILITATION OF THE FARMER.

(To the Editor). Sir,—ln, view of Mr. Broadfoot's statement, that I failed to put forward any construction plan during my debate with him—but indulged in destructive criticism only—l wish to point out that the terms 'of the debate precluded me from developing •any alternative rehabilitative scheme and confined me to criticism of the Bill only. The situation of the farming community is so critical, however, and the need for effective measures of relief so urgent, that I am srue Mr. Broadfoot would welcome an opportunity to examine in public debate the scheme advanced by the Auckland Executive of the Farmers'Union as an alternative to the mortgage legislation, "The Mortgage Corporation Act," and "The Mortgagors' Final Adjustment Act" enacted by the Government. Especially as he expressed his desire to obtain the fullest information, I therefore invite Mr. Broadfoot to publicly debate with me the Auckland Farmers' Union Executive scheme for the rehabilitation of farmers, as an alternative to the mortgage legislation. The debate can be arranged to suit Mr. Broadfoot's convenience. I shall require, of course, due notice to enable me to make arrangements to attend. —I am, J. H. FURNISS.
