STATE THEATRE. Combining spectacle with drama, romance, comedy and the never-to-be forgotten music of Fredei’ic Norton, “Chu Chin Chow" provides glittering material at the State Theatre to-night and on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday to appeal to every taste, its pageantry enhanced by skilful handling and acting of classic style. In its settings, this magnificently produced Gaumont-British picture reaches great heights, those responsible for its vivid panoramas having excelled themselves. Grouping of large crowds, costumes of great beauty and dance ensembles of a most original order are among other features which have been combined into a great film—quite the finest musical play to date from any British studio. The brilliant production is an enlarged version of Oscar Asche’s famous musical play. The plot of “Chu Chin Chow" is the immortal legend of Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves—story of universal appeal. George Robey, John Garrick and Anna May Wong head the caste. EMPRESS THEATRE. “Of Human Bondage,” to be screened at the Empress Theatre this evening, is a picture which touches movingly on actual life, and is almost entirely devoid of false values or dramatic concessions. Francis Dee, Kay Johnson, and Reginald Denny are co-starred in this production. COMMUNITY SINGING. Albert Russell, the king of joy germs, and Reg. Morgan, prince of songland, are coming to the Empress Theatre on Monday to' present an entirely new, joyous and melodious programme. New songs, new duets, new stories and quips are to be presented by the irrepressible pair for their third visit to Te ICuiti.
