OTO. RABBIT BOARD

FIRST MEETING HELD. POISONING IN FEBRUARY. It was thought an election would be necessary in connection with the formation of the Otorohanga Rabbit Board, but owing to the retirement of six of the candidates, the numbers left was just sufficient to fill the five seats. The candidates elected are: Messrs. John Williams (Honikiwi), Bradlaugh Symes (Puketotara), Henry Rothery (Te Kuiti Road), Mark Cowley (Pirongia Road), and George Edward Martin (Whawharua). Mr. W. G. Bonner is the Government representative on the Board. The candidates who retired were Messrs. W. I. Bowyer, H. A. C. Baker, J. H. Graham, W. G. Johnston, Albert Pettigrew and F. G. Hyde. The area under the jurisdiction of the Board is a most extensive one —from the Kawhia harbour and Pirongia on the south-west, to the Rangitoto Ranges and Hangatiki on the east and south. The first meeting of the Board was held yesterday, when Mr. Symes was elected chairman. Mr. Wynyard, of Te Awamutu, was appointed secretary and treasurer.

The general policy of the Board decided upon in the discussion was that a general poisoning should take place in February, and meanwhile the farmers are urged to keep the rabbits in check. Phosphorised pollard will be supplied free by the Board on application. A rabbiter is to be appointed and a preliminary inspection of the district is to be made.
