NATIONAL LOTTERIES
PROPOSAL FOR GREAT BRITAIN. AT CONSERVATIVE CONFERENCE. (Press Association.—Copyright.) (Received 11.30 a.m.) London, October 5. At the Conservative Conference, the Rt. Hon. L. C. C. Davidson, member of the House of Commons, moved a resolution urging a national lottery. He emphasised that ordinary citizens resented the attempt to prevent them having a "flutter," and pointed out that French lotteries recently contributed £13,000.000 to the Treasury. He suggested 10s tickets, 5s to be devoted to prizes and the remainder to finance Work of national importance, instead of allowing £50,000,000 to go to sweepstakes abroad. The resolution was passed enthusiastically.
