DRAINAGE BOARDS
AND RURAL RATING. Mr. W. J. Broadfoot, M.P., has forwarded the following letter to the Te Kawa Drainage Board:— “I have had many discussions with the Prime Minister, relative to the order of reference of the Royal Commission to consider rural rating, and especially with regard to the incorporation of Drainage Boards in such reference. Early this week, the Prime Minister indicated to me that the order of reference, when set up, would cover Drainage Boards. This will enable the extraordinary difficulties of the rating question in drainage area to be put into its proper perspective in the general rating question.” The question of rating by Drainage Boards is very vital to this district, and the letter will be of general interest.
