AWAMARINO TENNIS OPENING. (Own Correspondent.) A most successful day was held on the Awamarino Tennis Club's court on Sunday, 20th November. The weather held wonderfully, clearing early in the morning, and there being not too much sun and very little breeze. Conditions for playing were excellent. The occasion was the opening of the club's new concrete court. There were a hundred people present—visitors from Kinohaku, Te Waitere, Moeatoa, Kiritehere and Marakopa. The games commenced at 11 a.m. and continued utnil dark. At 1.30 p.m. the president, Mr. C. Thrush, senr., in his opening speech said that the club was tired of having no play every year owing to wet courts, and so made up their minds to do something solid. The court cost just on £6O cash, not counting the afternoon's and evenings of solid work getting material. Telegrams of congratulations were also read from j Ohura and Manapota Clubs. The ! Manapota Club mentioned that they would send out a team after Christmas. After the opening speech the court was wet—wine for the ladies and beer for the gents was honoured in drinking the Club's health. Everyone who knew even the least bit about tennis was given a game, some very interesting matches being played. Luncheon and afternoon tea were provided by the ladies and everyone enjoyed themselves and are looking forward to next opening.
