Fried eggs are less liable to break or stick to the pan if a little flour is added to the frying-pan. Blankets which are new should be soaked for half-an-hour in water to which has been added one pound of bicarbonate of soda. Put them through a wringer. All the dressing will come out, and they may then be washed in the usual way. Custard that has curdled will be improved if it is put when hot into a clean, cold basin and stirred in one direction until it cools. Arrowroot sauce flavoured with.a fruit syrup will improve any sponge pudding. Make the arrowroot in the usual manner and add the fruit syrup, which can be either fresh or bottled at the last minute.
Capers make a delicious addition to scrambled eggs. Do not put in any vinegar with them. Tar stains can be removed by applying salad oil to the spots. This should be done as soon as possible. Potatoes can be scraped more easily if they are left for two or three minutes in a little boiling water to which a pinch of soda has been added. Never put egg-stained linen straight into the wash, but soak it first in cold water to which a little powdered borax has been added. This will help to loosen the stain, and in the subsequent washing there will be no need for hard rubbing.
