WRONGLY LABELLED

SOVIET BUTTER FOR “FINEST “EMPIRE.” FIRM FINED £2O. London, September 30. A case under the Merchandise Marks (Imported Goods) No. 1 Order, of 1932, was heard at Mealdstone Petty Sessions his week, when Messrs. Handimeals, Ltd., of Kentish Town Road, were fined £5 an each of four summonses, and were also ordered to pay £5 ss. costs, for exposing for sale and selling Russian butter not labelled with an indication of the country of origin at their Harrow branch. Evidence was given that an inspector purchasing a quarter of a pound of the butter from an unlabelled slab had the butter handed to him in a half sheet of paper on which appeared the words, “Finest Empire Produce.” Sir Reginald Blair, in announcing his decision, said he regarded it as a very bad case.
