One of the first white children to be born in Taranaki, Mr. William Moon, died at New Plymouth on Wednesday at the age of 87. Mr. Moon soon after his 87th birthday underwent an operation from which he never fully recovered. His parents arrived at New Plymouth by the Blenheim in 1842 and lived in a twostorey house in Belt Road, near the sea. Mr. Moon became a stone-mason and worked on the old kerbing in Devon Street and the wall bounding the Bank of Australasia. He leaves a family of seven, Mesdames Stevens (Sydney), F. Moore (Feilding), C. Crutch (Hawera), A. Buckman (Pio Pio), S. Barnes (New Plymouth) and M. Julian (New Plymouth) and Mr, W, Moon (Hunterville).
