Alice Cookies. —Take % cup shortening, % cup sugar, 2 eggs, % cup milk, % cup cocoanut, 1 cup raisins, 1 cup broken nuts, y 2 teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon baking powder, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1 cup oatmeal, 1 cup flour. Cream shortening and sugar, add eggs (beaten in well one at a time), stir in milk, then cocoanut, raisins, and nuts. Sift flour, salt, baking powder and cinnamon together, add to oatmeal and blend both mixtures thoroughly. Drop from spoon to greased pan, and bake 12 minutes in moderate oven. This quantity makes 50 cookies. Ginger Cheese Muffins. Sift together 2 cups flour, 3 teaspoons baking powder, y 4 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda, V 2 teaspoon ground ginger. y 2 teaspoon salt. Beat one egg well, add gradually h cup milk, then i cup golden syrup, and slowly add the mixture to sifted dry ingredients, stirring constantly. When smooth add 4 tablespoons of melted shortening, and lastly fold in two-thirds cup grated cheese. Half fill greased muffin tins, and bake in moderate oven 15 to 20 minutes. . Serve hot with butter. Sour Milk Spiced Pie.—Take 1 cup sour milk, 1 tablespoon vinegar, 1 cup seeded raisins, y 2 teaspoon cinnamon, y 4 teaspoon cloves, 1 egg, 1 cup sugar. Soak raisins overnight in the sour milk and vinegar. When ready to bake stir in the sugar, mixed with cinnamon and cloves, and the slightly beaten egg, and pour into a pie plate lined with short pastry. Cover with a top crust and bake 35 minutes in hot oven.
