WAIMIHA

(Own Correspondent.) The dance held in the Waimiha Picture Palace on Saturday, 23rd inst., under the auspices of the School Social Committee, was a very enjoyable function from every point of view. The attendance was a fair one; many more undoubtedly would have been present if it was not for the other attraction inland on the same evening'. The building had been nicely decorated for the occasion, varied coloured streamers being extended from one end to the other. Music was supplied by the Native Orchestra, which was '"’•eatly enjoyed by all. Mr. R. G. Durney, our local popular M.C., officiated in this capacity, and as usual carried out his duties to the satisfaction of everyone. The winners of the Monte Carlo waltz were Miss D. London and Mr. W. Bentley, Waione.

During - the evening Mr. C. E. Middleton, chairman of the Waimiha School Committee, and also Mr. J. Jones, secretary, were given permission to address the audience relative to the movement that was on foot, bv the schools of the district for the establishment of a dental clinic service, and emphasising that the question of the establishment of a school clinic service in this district was entirely a matter for the cooperation of the parents and the local school committee. We are pleased to learn that Mr. W. Stafford, who was recently injured whilst playing in a local football match, is progressing very favoui'ably. In this connection, I am informed that a social function is being held in the Waimiha Picture Palace on the evening of Saturday, 30th inst., the net proceeds from which is in aid of Mr. Stafford, also that the local Labour Party branch are organising a dance for the 20th of August, net proceeds to be donated to Mr. Stafford. There is a sense of keen anticipation throughout the district in connection with the dance to be held in the Waimiha Picture Palace, under the auspices of the Waimiha branch of the Women’s Division of the N.Z. Farmers’ Union, on the 6th August.
