N.Z. AIRMAN KILLED

PLANE STRIKES A TREE. WHEN CAUGHT IN AIR POCKET. (Press Association. —Copyright.) (Received 10.45 a.m.) London, July 29. The New Zealander, Flying-Officer Peter Pharazyn, was killed when a Wipiti day bomber crashed near Can terbury. R. Ramsay, an aviator gave evidence at the inquest that while be and his wife and daughter were dining they saw a plane descending. Then it rose and they heard a crash and saw the tail disappearing in the branches of a tree. They rushed to the plane which was burning fiercely. He was of the opinion that Pharazyn encountered a sharp bump over the tree. A doctor gave evidence that death was due to head injuries before incineration.

Flying-Officer Warrington gave evidence that Pharazyn was an experienced airman and unlikely to take unnecessary risks. He was probably struck down by a. draught of air and brought too low to clear the tree. A verdict of accidental death was returned.
