PERSONAL

A Press Association message from Los Angeles states that “Boy” Charlton, the Australian swimmer, has been confined to his bed for two days with a bad attack of influenza. Advice has been received that Mr. Ben Budden, a former prominent Honikiwi settler, is seriously ill at his home in Waitara. At the local school yesterday, Mr. B. Harker, who for a number of years has been the woodwork instructor, was farewelled by the pupils and staff. On behalf of Forms I to VI, J. Sutherland presented Mr. Harker with an Eversharp pen and pencil. He referred to the great interest taken by Mr. Harker in the sport of the school, which had been so heartily appreciated by all. Mr. Harker had enjoyed great popularity among the boys during the years he had been at the Te Kuiti school. In thanking the pupils for their present, Mr. Harker assured those present that the work had been thoroughly enjoyed by him, and he would have many happy memories to take away of his work as woodwork instructor at Te Kuiti. After this function the staff of the school entertained Mr. Harker to afternoon tea, when he was presented with a jardinere.
