ECONOMIC PENSIONS
2000 EX-SOLDIERS ELIGIBLE. The total number of those eligible for the soldiers' economic pension up to March 31 1931, was 2282. Up to that date there were about 2000 economic pensioners in the Dominion. The total amount payable in pensions to soldiers and dependents for the period ended March 31 was £1,245,-' 499, of which roughly £IOO,OOO was expended in economic pensions. Under the recommendations of the National Expenditure : Commission, the £2 a week paid to totally disabled men will not be touched. The economic pension, at a maximum of 275. a week, however, might be reduced. This pension is paid to men who have no other source of income and are unable to retain their employment or apply for suitable positions. ,
