It is understood that as the High Court to-day will hear argument in the matter, the Federal Ministry will not issue the proclamation to-day. The State of New South Wales counter claims the total amount of £2,346,655 for money payable to the State under the Federal Roads Agreement Act and other accounts. TIN HARE SCANDALS. POLICE DEMAND DOCUMENTS. (Press Association. —Copyright.) (Received 1 p.m.) Sydney, this day. Detective - Superintendent Mackay interviewed Mr. B. S. Stevens and asked him for the documents and declarations in the recent mechanical hare exposures. Mr. Stevens refused and subsequently made a statement that if these documents are handed to the police they will, be transmitted to the Ministers themselves.
Mr. Stevens said: "I have no confidence that the Ministers will institute proceedings against themselves. I regard the action of the Premier in referring this matter to the police as a clumsy and brazen attempt to evade a judicial inquiry, which alone has full powers of eliciting the truth.
In the New South Wales Legislative Assembly, Mr. B. S. Stevens, acting-Leader of the Opposition, asked for the appointment of a Royal Commission to inquire into tin-hare dealings. He said he held statutory declarations referring to corrupt bargains and licenses, "which implicate certain members of the Ministry and a high Government official."
