The late Mr. Ivar Kreuger, who recently committed suicide, controlled four-fifths of the world's match supply and habitually he had dealt with millions of pounds. The Swedish Match Company's capital alone is £20,000,000.

The efforts of the peace conference have reached a deadlock over the insistence of the Chinese upon the unconditional withdrawal of the Japanese from the occupied area.

The Observer states that if the new President of the Irish Free State, Mr. de Valera, breaks a solemn pact by abolishing the oath of allegiance, Britain will be in no way alarmed either by the abolition or its propagandist repercussion in India or South Africa, but she will not pretend to ignore it.

M. Abraham Frowein, acting-presi-dent of the International Chamber of Commerce, in an address to that body, said the cancelation of war debts was essential to the salvation of the world's economic system.

The Chinese in the garrison town of Sakhalin, Manchuria, resenting the hoisting of the flag of the new Manchurian State, revolted and seized the key positions. They killed ten Japanese officers and two civilians and captured the Japanese Chief of Staff.

The News-Chronicle states that despatches from Japan indicate that a military coup is imminent there.
