BRITISH TRADE BOOM

ORDERS FROM MANY COUNTRIES.

TRADE REVIVAL EVIDENCED NEW COAL MINE.

Evidence continues to accumulate from all .quarters of the world’s new interest in British goods, and on all sides there are welcome indications of a notable revival of British industries.

It would be difficult, says the Nottingham correspondent oi' the Sunday Times, to parallel an instance in the history of electioneering in which quicker results have followed upon a general election than those which have occurred in the British hosiery industry. In Nottingham, Leicester, and Loughborough thousands of operatives have been already taken off the “ dole,” and many of the bigger works are now running at their full capacity. A well-known Loughborough manufacturer states that within the last few days his order’s have increased by 100 per cent.

The newly-established City of Birmingham Information Bureau reports that it is iq communication with fourteen Continental and American firms which are contemplating opening works in the city. Four loreign firms have actually acquired factories in Birmingham. INDUSTRIES FAIR PLANS. An inquiry for a complete gasworks for a town of 300,000 inhabitants in Greece is among hundreds of communications rece.ved from potential buyers of British goods in twenty countries overseas as the result of a new information system adopted by the British Industries Fair in Birmingham.

The system has involved the compilation of an alphabetical card index listing some 10,000 articles manufactured by firms which will exhibit in the fair at Castle Bromwich. The London and Noi’th-Eastern Railway has established an active Industrial Advisory Bureau at King’s Cross to provide an impartial development service for traders and industrialists. This bureau has now experienced a sharp increase in. the steadily-growing flow of inquiries, and more than 250 factories and 800 sites of all types are already on record.

The prospects of an improvement in the shipbuilding situation, according to the “ Motor Ship,” are better than they have been for twelve months. Freights show an upward trend, chartering gives signs oJ new life, and prices are at their lowest ebb. There is every indication, it is said, that a large proportion of t|he new orders will be for motor sh'.ps. The bulk of the coming demand will be for vessels of from 5000 tons gross to 20,000 tons gross, and mainly for fast cargo liners, and, to a certain extent, for intermediate passenger ships. NEW COAL MINE.

A new coal mine is being opened at Morpeth, Northumberland, and workmen have commenced to reach the coal seam. The royalty consists of 500 acres A “ BUY BRITISH ” BALL.

A “ Best of Everything ” Dinner and Pageant will show how beautiful are the materials produced in Great Britain, and everything worn or displayed will be on show, in the galleries round the ballroom, so that all present can inspect everything at close quarters and study the materials and prices.
