CAR STOLEN AT AWAKINO
STORE BROKEN INTO. PRISON ESCAPEE SUSPECTED. News has been been by the Te Kuiti police that a .Chrysler coupe car, 1927 model, painted dark blue with dark mudguards, Roman soldier mascot on bonnet, with artillery wheels, was stolen between 11 o’clock last night and 6 this morning, from the residence of Mr. J. G. Richards, Awakino; also that Mr. Avery’s store was broken into at 3 a.m. today.. On hearing sounds, Mr. Avery was awakened, and evidently disturbed the intruders. Foodstuffs were taken from the store shelves with two wristlet watches. A meal had been partaken of in the shop. It is suspected that _ this is the work of the escaped prisoner Bennett. The police are making diligent inquiries. CAR CHARGED WITH PETROL. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) New Plymouth, this day. A fresh - development this morning in the search for the escaped _ prisoner, Charles Bennett, was the discovery that a car had been stolen at Awakino. The vehicle had 15 gallons of petrol and was a Chrysler painted blue.
