PURSER KILLS CAPTAIN.
FOR LOVE OF TAHITIAN GIRL. Accused of shooting the captain of the ship at the height of a storm in the South Seas, Rene Canui, the purser of the liner Ville de Verdun, was taken back to France recently to stand trial on a charge 'of murder. The shooting occurred near Tahiti Island, where a beautiful half-caste Tahitian girl had boarded the liner for the Marquesas Islands. Canui is said to have fallen in love with her, and decided to take her back to France as his wife. Driven mad by the efforts of his fellow-officers to dissuade him, it is alleged, he took a revolver and shot the captain, M. Langrais.
