KOPAKI TENNIS. MAPIU v. MANGAOKEWA. (Own Correspondent.) In the challenge match for the Bridge Cup, played on Mangaokewa courts last week-end, the home team successfully defended the trophy against Mapiu “A,” winning by 40 games. Mapiu “B” beat Mangaokewa “B” by 24 games, although this match does not count in the contest for the Cup. Results of the “A” team are as follows, Mapiu names mentioned first:— W. Campbell lost to Powdrill, o—9; Hopkins lost to Waghorn, 4—9; J. Campbell lost to Barlow, 6—9; Donnelly lost to Taylor, 2—9; Miss Shivan beat Mrs. Barlow, 6—2; Mrs. Williamson beat Mrs. McKean 6—2.
Miss Shivnan and Mrs. Williamson lost to Mrs. Barlow and Mrs. McKean, 2—6. W. Campbell and Hopkins lost to Waghorn and Powdrill, o—9; J. Campbell and Donnelly lost to Barlow and Taylor, 5—9.

The somewhat premature equinoctial gales have been raging during the last few days, and clouds of pumice have been whirling in all directions. Fortunately, no damage is so far reported, with the exception of loose sheets of iron and tin chimneys being dislodged where they have not been securely fastened down Judging from the appearance of the modern bungalow which is being built for Mr. Taylforth on his newly acquired farm property, it is apparent that there is a spirit of sane optimism working in this community, notwithstanding the much discussed depression, and the sad tales of woe from the farming section. To say the least, however, the building will be of considerable importance in alleviating the quaint nicturesqueness of the locality. For some weeks the transporting of poles for the power line between Arapuni and Stratford, has been proceeding, and the huge pile in the railway yards is gradually diminishing. Messrs. Walsh brothers are the contractors and are using a lorry with an extra long chassis for the purpose. Personal. Mrs. Lawson, of Auckland, spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. McNarey Miss Goodwin has been staying with her sister, Mrs. H. Dickinson, Mangaokewa. Mr T. Rodgers, of Auckland, was in the district last week, renewing old acquaintanceships, and has left again for the far north.
