CLERGYMAN SUES CANON
An alleged struggle between two clergymen in the vestry of South wark Cathedral was mentioned at Southwark County Court, England, recently by the Rev. Cyril Barker, of Bournemouth, who sued Canon J. B. Haldane, the Cathedral precentor, for wrongful dismissal. Mr. Barker, a former priest-vicar at the cathedral, said Haldane and he had differences over ritual and vestments. Canon Haldane practically assaulted him. "He took me by the collar," added Mr. Barker. Judge Moore: I am afraid you are overstrung in your feelings. Mr. Barker: I want justice.
Judge Moore: Restrain your feelings. You. have no claim against Canon Haldane. Your feelings are overwrought. Mr. Barker: I am nearing bankruptcy now.
Mr Wynn Werninck, for Canon Haldane, said that there was a friendly parting between the parties concerned instead of a legal notice. Mr. Barker was offered a holiday if he so desired to accept it. Judgment was given for Canon Haldane.
