During the Hon. Mr. Downie Stewart's absence from the Dominion his portfolios of Finance and Customs will be administered by the Prime Minister, Mr. Forbes, and the Minister of Native Affairs, Sir Apirana Ngata, will act as AttorneyGeneral.
The death occurred On Friday last at the residence of her niece Mrs. R. Archer, of Te Kuiti, of Miss Georgina Elizabeth Chatwin, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Chatwin, of Brougham Street, Wellington. The late Miss Chatwin's parents were eariy residents of Wellington, and were very well-known. Miss Chatwin, accompanied by a sister, went to live in Hastings about four years ago, and were im the recent disastrous earthquake, which destroyed their home. Miss Chatwin had been in ailing health for some months, and at the time of her death was on a holiday. The interment took place at Te Kuiti on Sunday last, the officiating clergyman being the Rev. Newbould. The late Miss Chatwin was born during the voyage of her parents from England to Victoria. After being educated at Ballarat and Clunes, Victoria, she took up teaching before she came to New Zealand. On her arrival here she was appointed to Judgeford School, near Pahautanui, then served two years at Kilbirnie, and in 1886 was appointed headmistress of the Te Aro infant School. She retired in 1912.
