GLASGOW DISTURBANCE

In the House of Commons, following back benqh protests of the police measures at last night's disturbances in Glasgow and the Secreretary of Scotland's denial of repression, Mr. 0. Kirkwood, Labour member for Dunbarten, said: "If you don't change the demeanour of the authorities at Glasgow you have a chance of putting every one of us in gaol. You Will take our lives or we yours, for do you think we will stand by and see our people battoned." The Speaker called for the next business. Riotous scenes occurred at Glasgow on Thursday night when the police prevented a crowd of 50,000 people at an unemployed demonstration on Glasgow Green, headed by Mr. J. McGovern, Labour member of the House of Commons for Shettleston, marching through the city. Mounted policemen charged on to the Green and scattered the demonstrators. Many were injured, including several of the police, and were sent to hospital. The crowd driven from the Greer, broke hundreds of shop windows and rifled provision shops. Residents of tenements joined the rioters and hurled bottles down on the police from upstairs windows.
