POSTPONING ELECTION

WAIMARINO LABOUR PROTESTS.

HINT OF “SOCIAL DISTURBANCE.”

The following letter, signed by Mr. J. Pattison (president) and Mr. W. Seator (secretary) of the Waimarino Labour Representation Committee, has been forwarded to the Hon. G. W. Forbes, Prime Minister: — “Sir,—The Waimarino Labour Representation Committee herewith protests against any postponement of the coming general election, and in this connection wishes to point out that, evei> since the establishment of Constitutional Government in this Dominion, either Liberals or Conservatives have governed, with the result that the larger portion of the people are in dire distress, and almost 70,000 of the workers below the bread line. Seeing that is so, is it not time that .both parties should consider having an altogether new social and economic system, that will more equally distribute the commodities of life and comfort. As a matter of fact, the workers have produced so much of everything that they have not enough of anything. “The adult suffrage election is the final bar or Court by which they, the people, decide; they have no other method of protesting against the - lowering of the standard of life. The adjournment of the forthcoming election savours of dictatorship of finance, and in this enlightened 20th century, we do not want dictatorship or tyranny in any form —it belongs to the past.

“If the people’s voice is not given effect to there may be social disturbance t"hat may embarrass your proposed National Government.

“In conclusion we appeal, to you to consider the people, rather than the banks and bond-holders.”
