HEAVY FLOODS
DAMAGE AT OAMARU. TRESTLE WORKS DESTROYED. (Press Association.—Copyright.) Oamaru, this day. The engineer in charge of the Waitaki hydro-electric works reports that the highest flood for several years destroyed the temporary trestle bridges connecting the coffer dam. The Otago bank damage is estimated at £4OO sterling. Permanent works are unaffected, and it is expected to take six weeks before the bridges are restored. The river flow is estimated at half a million gallons per second.
