SUGGESTIONS FOR UNEMPLOYMENT BOARD.
SERIOUS DROP IN TIMBER DEMAND.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
Greymouth, this day. The G.rey-Hokitika Sawmillers’ Cooperative Company passed a resolution to bring under the notice of the Unemployment Board the present restricted condition of the sawmilling business and consequent unemployment, and suggest the establishment of a building promotion division of the board to encourage immediate building operations with the use of Dominion material and manufactures. The resolution added that the sales of the company’s timber dropped by 58 per cent, from May to November and the mills closed total 25. Other mills are working only 20 per cent, of their capacity and 650 timber men are unemployed.
