AROUND THE BOROUGH
WORK OF THE MONTH. "REPORT BY ENGINEER. The engineer, Mr. B. J. Drake, in his report submitted at last night’s meeting of the Borough Council, referred to the following work which had been carried out during the past month. Street Maintenance. —During the month a general attention to watertables throughout the Borough has had a beneficial effect. The worst portions of Carroll Street and Mangarino Road have been patched with shingle. Waitete Road is getting very pot-holely and, as opportunity offers, this road will be scarified and rerolled. The roads that have already been treated in this manner are wearing excellently.
Main Highways. The Borough portion of the Te Kuiti section of the main highway has been scarified and rerolled. That portion near the boundary, although improved, needs further attention and, as opportunity offers, this will be attended to.
George Street Extension. —The subgrade is now ready for the final trimming, whence spalling on the surface can be commenced. A saving in cost of metal for this road way has been made by using the surplus metal from the Rora Street reconstruction work. Hetet’s Road. —This road has now been completed with satisfactory results. Quarry strippings of limestone and clay were used where ever possible, thus 'enabling the cost of construction and repair to be a matter of labour only. Viaduct Reserve. The ragwort throughout this reserve has now been sprayed with sodium chlorite, which is proving very satisfactory.
