KOPAKI TENNIS. Last week-end the first round for ;he Bridge Challenge Cup was played, vhen Otamati challenged Aratoro. rhe weather was beautifully fine and ;here was a large crowd of specta;brs present. The match was arranged for the preceding week-end. >ut was postponed on account of the •ough weather.

Although the results show that the challengers lost by 4 sets to 7, the play was fairly even throughout, and indicated that Aratoro may have to exert its full strength to hold the cup this season. Following are the scores, Otamati names being mentioned first: — Gents.' Doubles: Farrer and Thompson lost to Nathan and Paul, 5 —6; Wilson and Williams lost to Miller and Hira, I—6.1 —6. Ladies' Doubles: Mrs. Thompson and Miss Brook lost to Miss McGregor and Miss Pittams, 3—6. Combines: Thompson and Mrs. Thompson lost to Nathan and Miss McGregor, 2—6. Farrer and Miss Brook beat Paul and Miss Pittams, 6—2.

Gents.' Singles: Thompson beat Nathan, 6—5; Farrer lost to Paul,

3—6; Wilson lost to Hira, 3—6; Williams beat Miller, 6 —5.

Ladies' Singles: Mrs. Thompson lost to Miss McGregor, 2—6; Miss Brook beat Miss Pittams, 6 —5. A dance was held in the Aratoro School last Saturday evening for the purpose of gaining funds for school needs, but owing to a rather poor attendance the profits were very small. The function was conducted by the School Committee, and Mrs. Wilson, of Te Kuiti, supplied the music. The weather has at last taken a more hopeful turn, enabling farmers to get busy with work that was held up on account of the prolonged period of rain. Shearing is in full swing, and the destruction of ragwort occupies a good deal of attention for most people.

PERSONAL. Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Sharp, and Mr. and Mrs. Penman, of Devonport, are the guests of Mrs. E. 0. Williams, Taparata," for a few days. Mr. Phillips, of Auckland, is spending a holiday with Mr. and Mrs. Frederick. Miss King is visiting Mr. and Mrs. Duncan. Mr. Rogers is back again after a tour of the We*t Coast districts.
