The Premier of New South'"Wales, Mr. J. T. Lang, had an interview yesterday with the - Governor of the State, Sir Philip Game, seeking to have 40 additional appointments made to the Legislative Council. The Governor refused to sanction the appointments. Asked in the House of Commons whether he proposed to refer to the World Court the claims of the British investors in French war loans, Mr. Snowden stated that the whole question was still under consideration. His Majesty, on Mr. J. H. Scullin’s recommendation, has appointed Sir Isaac Alfred Isaacs, Chief Justice of the High Court of Australia, Gover-nor-General in succession to Lord Stonehaven. The “News-Chronicle” says a keen desire to perpetuate a family name actuated the Rev. John Arthur Wright’s provisional bequest of £15,000 to a schoolboy of 15, Matthew Neal Hallwright, of Wairoa, New Zealand. Rati Ram, a Burmese police Sepoy, ran amok in the police station at Mudon, near Moubmien, and killed five persons with his revolver. Then he blew his own head off. During the absence of the actingPrime Minister, the Hon. E. A. Ransom, at his farm at Akitio burglars paid a visit to his residence in Queen Street, Dannevirke, and ransacked it. Communists have occupied Chaneteh, in Hunan, and foreigners are lieved to have evacuated. Over 260 ships have been fired on by Communists on the Yangtse. Work proceeded as usual on Tuesday on the majority of the English and Welsh coalfields. In Scotland there was a stoppage in most of the districts.
