PROGRESS IN NATIVE FARMING.

EXPERIENCE ON EAST COAST. •fdarked progress was noted by the Director of Education (Mr. T. B. Strong), in the course of a visit to East Coast native schools, in the farming of native, lands by the Maoris. Some of the farms, he stated, are managed on the co-operative basis, and dairy factories have also been established. Mr. Strong added that there was therefore very good reason why instruction in elementary agriculture should be included in the curriculum of every native school. In one centre, Tikitiki, a "large cooperative store is run entirely by Maoris. Mr. Strong was particularly impressed by the good work that is being done, and has: been done, among the natives by the Hon. Sir Apirana Ngata.
